1994-2012 mustang wheels
Way to go if you have your hands on a mustang. If you take a look at your wheels you will notice that they aren't the best to look at. That's because the factory gave you what they thought was good enough. Before people even correct their body work or paint job they sport some hot wheels. What can you do so you're not left in the dust?
How to Setup your Wheels
Most of the wheel sets I'll talk about can be placed on any mustang, but always be sure to check with your salesperson. The Wheels come in different sizes. For the front:
- 17x8
- 17x9
- 18x8
- 18x9
- 19x8.5
- 20x8.5
For the rear:
- 17x10
- 18x10
- 19x10
- 20x10
You should never put the rear tires in the front because the tire will grind on the outer wall. If you get four of the same size like (4)18x8 then your set up is standard. A staggered set up is something like (2)18x8 in the front and (2)18x10 in the rear. Wider tires in the back will make your car look very muscular! Some people even like to offset their car with (2) 18x9 in the front and (2) 19x10 in the rear or something similar. Very few people purchase a rim larger then 18x9. You begin to lose off the line with 19' and 20'.
Mustang Wheel Types
The wheels they have available for most mustangs are so numerous that it will bring tears to your eyes. A popular wheel is a chrome bullitt deep dish wheel. It is created with a triple plated chrome. It is developed in a silver polish, black, and matte black. Most Mustang rims are made in these colors. Most mustang after-market rims have center caps. The 5 spokes are wide, but it will make your mustang stand out!
Chrome matches good with white decals, and most people sport it. It makes the car pop. Black rims are great for black mustangs or for a more aggressive look.
Another popular pick is the Saleen style wheel. It has 5 spokes, but the spokes are much skinnier over the bullitt wheels. They allow you to show off your brake pads and painted calipers. The Saleen wheels are my favorite. Cobra R wheels are similar.
There are many more choices to choose from like the 2010 GT500 wheel that brings more style to your car. These wheels are what I would start off with.
An added touch to your wheels are center caps. They come in many logos like SVT, GT, V8, 5.0 Cobra, and many others that may be relevant to your mustang. They also create different lug nuts and valve caps, but that's up to you. Your car will still drive without those valve caps. I hope you have fun with your new wheels!
