We've come a long way since the 13 colonies, resisting taxation, and being the underdog that no one thought would triumph over the seemingly insurmountable British forces. America's independence was fought over something passionate that the original Colonists believed in fiercely: to protect their freedoms that had been compromised by taxation without representation.
