How To BBQ Lobster

How to BBQ Lobster Tails

BBQ Lobster

Barbecuing lobster tails is as easy as barbecuing a steak on the grill. BBQ lobster takes under 15 minutes to make from start to finish. Grilled lobster is super delicious, and barbecuing it at home is a lot less expensive than ordering a lobster dinner at a restaurant. Once you've barbecued the lobster you can eat it as is, dipped in butter or you can cut up the lobster and use it to make other meals such as lobster tacos, lobster salad and lobster omelets.

What you need to BBQ lobster tails:

  • BBQ
  • Lobster tails (3-8 ounces each)
  • Skewers
  • Seasoning (optional)
  • Turn the grill on med-high heat.
  • Use scissors to cut the soft underside of the shell lengthwise.
  • Peel back the soft underside of the shell and season the lobster with melted butter or other seasonings.
  • (Optional) Stick a skewer through the middle of the lobster.
  • Place the lobster on the grill with the hard shell side down; BBQ for 8 minutes.
  • Flip the lobster over and continue cooking for another 5 minutes. Lobster is done when the meat turns a creamy white color and the lobster peels away from the shell a little bit.
  • Remove the cooked lobster from the BBQ; remove the skewer and shell before serving.

BBQ Lobster Tips

BBQ Lobster and Steak on the Grill
  • BBQ fresh lobster. Never grill frozen lobster. Frozen lobster can be thawed over night in the refrigerator.
  • Place the lobster on the grill hard side down first.
  • Don't BBQ lobster longer than recommended. Cooking lobster longer than recommend will make the meat tough.
  • When cooked, the lobster meat will be a creamy white color and the shells will be a bright red color.
  • When lobster is cooked properly the meat will start to separate from the shell a little bit.
  • To give your lobster more flavor, season it with seasonings, baste with butter or squeeze juice from a lemon wedge over it.
  • Putting a skewer though the middle of the lobster will help keep it together and also make it easier to flip.

These look delicious! I've never attempted to cook lobster myself, but I might give it a whirl based on your suggestions. I'm horrible at cooking seafood and need to get better at it.
