I've looked at tons of different pieces from various artists of different experience levels. I have noticed on more than one occasion that an artist would keep from drawing hands in their pieces. They would either draw from the shoulders up or have their character standing with their hands behind their back on almost all of their pieces. I have a feeling that these things were done in order to avoid from having to have to draw the hands in the first place.

Start off by drawing a simple wrist shape. Two slightly curved vertical lines on your sheet of paper will resemble the start of your wrist.

Step 2

Extend your wrist down to where the pinky and thumb should begin.

Draw out the fingers on your hand individually. You should look at your own hand for reference if it helps any! Now, on to the fingernails.

Step 4

Draw in some simple fingernails for your hand. You may draw the nails to appear however long or short you would like them to be. In this tutorial, the nails are somewhat short and end at the tips of each finger.

Step 5

See those lines in the middle of your fingers? We're going to include those in our hand drawing just to add some extra detail to it. Try not to overdo the lines too much or you might end up making the hand look a little too wrinkly - unless that's what you're going for initially. :)
