How to Set Up a Google Analytics Account

View Stats, Traffic, Bounce Rates, and Learn More About Your Visitors With Google Analytics

Google Analytics

Google Analytics is the easiest way to track your website stats, and it's completely free. You can view traffic stats, find out which sites are referring traffic, check your keywords, and even set goals. There are even custom reporting options, and you can view the top pages on your site by traffic.

If you already have a Google account, you can use your Google sign in information to access Google Analytics. This page will show you how to set up a Google Analytics account, and how to link your Zujava profile to your Google Analytics account. Once it's set up, you'll have access to keywords that are driving traffic, reports, and your top content listed by URL.

Step 1: Go to Google Analytics

Type into your address bar www.google.com/analytics, then click "access analytics," the big blue box that should be on the right side.

If you already have an account with Google, like Gmail, then you won't need to fill out the information. Simply log in with your current Google account, and proceed to reading the next section.

If you don't have an account, then please read the instructions below:

On the next page, you should see a link in the top right that says "sign up for a new Google account." Fill out the required form, accept the terms of service, and create your account.

This is the screen you will see when you log into your Google Analytics account.

Step 2: Track a Profile or Website

You can track a specific website or your Zujava profile (and all of the leaves you've published) by clicking the small cog at the top right of the screen.

Click the cog at the top right to track a profile.

Step 3: Create a New Account

Click "new account" to proceed with creating a tracking ID for your profile on Zujava or to track your own website.

Click "new account" to start tracking a specific URL and its pages.

Step 4: Fill out the Form for Your New Account

Include your URL in your new account profile. For Zujava profiles, this will be www.zujava.com/users/yourusername.

If you are tracking a different website, enter the URL into the proper field.

Whether you want to share information with Google is up to you, however you may want to check off the box so you can use other Google services with this information.

Accept the terms of service, and click "create account."

Fill out the form and accept the terms of service.

Copy the tracking code that begins with UA.

Step 5: Copy Your Unique Tracking ID Number

Next, you'll want to copy your unique tracking ID number so you can use it to track your website. This tracking ID should be placed on your Zujava profile by clicking "edit bio" when logged into your Zujava account.

For other websites besides Zujava, copy and paste the code at the bottom of the page and place it in the appropriate spot on your own website. The proper spot will be before the <head> tag.

To add your Google Analytics code to your Zujava profile, edit Bio and add at the bottom the "UA" number.

Add Your Tracking ID to Your Zujava Profile

Finally, copy your unique tracking ID that starts with "UA" that can be found at the top of the page when setting up your new Google Analytics account.

Paste the tracking ID number into your bio by clicking "edit bio" and scrolling to the bottom. Add your UA number and save your profile.

Congratulations! You will now have stats to watch in your Google Analytics account for each of your Zujava leaves. Allow 24 hours for tracking to start properly recording.

You can now access keywords, your most popular content, and view other fun stats. Have fun!

Official Google Analytics Links:

You only have to set up your new Google Analytics profile once. Once you add your tracking ID to your Zujava bio, this will track all of the leaves created under your entire account.

I read this after I had already set it up, and I have a couple of questions. Firstly, I set this up after I had already published a leaf, will it work for the leaf that I already published, in addition to future leaves? Does it also track my profile page?
Secondly, when setting it up, i put in www.zujava.com, i didn't write the part "/users/yourusername" because my leaves don't include that prefix. will it still work? Thank you.

Thanks for this elaborate post. I ftnourately don't have this problem (anymore, fixed it a long time ago in a similar fashion) but this definately will help a lot of people. It also gives good insight in the strange way Google actually manages (or not manages) identity. I'ld like to hear your opinion on how you think Google should actually sort this out. Different scenario's have different problems.Wouldn't it be just a better option to allow users to merge accounts: login on both accounts sequentially, press the merge button, select a few are you sure buttons' and then actually run through a merge script that shows you the conflicts you might want to resolve. This is in fact a problem that happens on multiple sites. I have seen a lot of discussions on LinkedIN from people with two or more accounts because they were invited on e-mail addresses they didn't add to their account yet.Another question is this: If you happen to have established an Orkut profile with your Google account and you destroy that, you may also destroy all relationships (virtually that is) with the people you connected to. This can't simply be migrated'. You'ld have to reconnect' and that's a hassle. This is in fact what makes the LinkedIN problem I mentioned earlier quite nasty, since you don't want to bother those you're connected to with your petty little technical problems I guess a consequenses of dropping your Google Account' post might be in order here .CheersWillem Kossen

@Rochelle you must put you profile page url in the URL section when setting up trackig ID, then only your profile data can be tracked. Make a new tracking ID with your profile link.
