The love for good wine is something that people around the world have in common. Wine has been around for more than a thousand years ago. The earliest accounts of wine have been from the Bible when Noah planted a vineyard to make wine. Since ancient times up to the present, people have been known to enjoy drinking wine. This love for fine wine is probably one of the best reason why there is a need to know how to store wine. Even if wine cellars are the best known storage for wines there are other things that you need to consider if you want to store wine.

What you need to know

In the past it is the job of wine connoisseur to store vintage wines but right now if you love to entertain guests into your house or host a party it is a must to learn how to store wine until there is a need to serve it. The number one thing that you should consider is just how many wines are you planning to store? The most common place to store wine is by storing it in the wine cellar with the use of several racks of wine. The next thing that you can consider as a good place to store your wine is by using wine racks for your kitchen counter top.

The most popular type of wine storage is by using wooden racks. Wine racks made from wood will look great even with any house design that you have in mind. Wine connoisseurs favor the use of heavy metal iron racks since it is sturdy and can carry the weight of hundreds of wine bottles. Glass wine racks are designed with beautiful etchings that are use to display wine collections but have the tendency to break into pieces. You have to choose which among these wine racks can be the best kind of wine organizer for you. Another thing that you need to keep in mind is to store sparkling wines on the lowest shelf, white wines should be place on top of the sparkling wines and the red wine can occupy the top rack. These are arranged accordingly in a strategic position since when heat rises the red wine will not be affected as much as the sparkling wine.

For the wines that you need to store in the cellar you need to remember to keep the temperature cool. Hot temperatures tend to make the wine age rapidly. The ideal temperature that you need in the cellar to keep your red or white wine cool is between 45and 65degrees, but be sure to keep the temperature stable. Even if a cool temperature is better than a hot one, using your refrigerator to store your wine can dry out the cork and ultimately can result to damaging your wine because of the air that will pass through the openings in the dry cork. This is the reason why most wines are stored with the bottle place in a lying position. The wine inside the bottle will wet the cork to keep it from drying out.

The refrigerator is a good place to store wine that you will immediately use or served especially if you have parties or large family gatherings. Since too much light from any source can make the wine age faster it is better to make your wine cellar room darker. Never place the wine cellar below an area where there is too much movement like constant walking or the use of vacuum cleaners and other types of home appliances since wine does not like to be shaken. If it would be difficult for you to build a wine cellar, there are still other options to store your wine like using the cupboard space under the stairs, the basement, and some other extra spaces in your house where you can keep the wine until it is time to use them.

I've stored wine in my cellar for years, and most of it has kept pretty well. However, I do have some tips for wine storage from over the years. One tip which I have never excercised is to spin the bottle halfway every month or so to prevent the wine from crystalizing in the bottle. The other tip is to make sure you drink the wine fairly soon, and not hold onto the wine forever. While vintage wines might cost a lot more money, they often times don't taste as good if you let them sit around for too long. Okay, one more tip: leave old bottles of wine that have just been uncorked open to aerate for an hour or so. Pour it in a decanter and it will taste much better. Great tips! I am one of the many beer drinkers of the world. Any good tips for us?
Yeah, fridge! :P
Or some rumours say, beer should be kept at 7th step of your basement stairs. But not sure if it's counted from the top or bottom!
