Intro to Digital Scapbooking

Why Switch to Digital Scrapbooking?

Sample digital scrapbook page

Save time, money, and storage space by switching to digital scrap booking.

Save time: no need to print photos, cut them down to size, apply to your layout. Your photos are already in digital format anyway. Plus if you make a mistake it can be fixed with a click of a mouse.

Save money: For one thing, there are thousands of free digital scrapbook resources available. Plus, if you do invest in supplies, you can use them over and over again.

Save storage space: Old school scrapbooking supplies take up a log of space! Digital scrapbooking materials fit on a flash drive or external hard drive nicely.

No Special Tools Required

You can start digital scrapbooking with software you already have

Before you invest in digital scrapbooking software, see if you like it. Test the waters using digital freebies and Microsoft Publisher. This silent tutorial will show you how easy it is.

Learning Curve Suggestion

Handling the Transition from Traditional to Digital

While you are making the transition from traditional scrapbooking to digital, you will continue to use the same albums you already use. The beauty of going digital is you can print out 12"x12" pages and slip them into your existing albums, right along side your traditional pages.

As you get more comfortable with it, you can then have beautiful coffee table style books professionally printed. Some scrappers continue to use the traditional albums. It's a matter of personal preference. The nice thing about traditional albums is you can slip other memorabilia besides just photos. On the other hand, there are few items that can't simply be scanned and incorporated into a digital page, either! So many choices!

Variety of Scrapbooks

As you can see here, the style of post bound scrapbook albums ranges from plain and masculine, to frilly and feminine, with everything in between. Quality and prices vary to meet every budget too.

I need to take the plunge, but anything techie or digital scares me. I was just getting used to the traditional kind of scrapbooking. If I get brave I'll come back to this leaf to learn how to start scrapbooking digitally. Thanks for the info.

I used to make digital scrapbooks on Scrapblog. They have since shut down and imported users over to Mixbook. I like that you can share them online and have a book printed and bound for you as well. :)
