Magna Cum Laude

Anyone raising kids today has probably heard the term "helicopter parenting," which is an often criticized child rearing approach. How will helicopter parents view their children's parenting techniques, when the time comes? Helicopter parenting has become a popular phrase and technique, but it hasn't always been that way, as Miriam Hendeles points out on her leaf, A Grandmother's View of 21st Century Helicopter Parenting.

Los Angeles, San Diego, and San Francisco hog a lot of the attention that California gets, but San Jose apparently has its fair share of oddities that shouldn't be passed up.

WriterJanis has written a Magna Cum Laude worthy leaf titled "The Best Unusual Attractions in San Jose, California," and it lives up to its title.

Great leaves often involve personal stories, just like this leaf that was awarded for Magna Cum Laude today. Written by thelesleyshow, My Natural Home Birth Story starts off with a narrative from a mother who decides on home birthing as the delivery option for her second child.

Have questions on inserting images into your leaves? Our photo upload option makes it easy, but there are other ways to insert photos on leaves. BaronTarquin has created an excellent tutorial simplifying the process using screenshots, images, and detailed instructions on his leaf Playing With Pictures on Zujava.

Marcia has provided a fantastic example of a content-rich sales page with her Silversmith Tools That A Jewelry Designer Needs leaf. This leaf includes a personal photo showing her own jewelry tools along with helpful suggestions for all the essential starter tools that someone who is new to silversmithing would need to buy. She gives her own recommendations and a handy list on which tools should be purchased first.

It's easy to forget about the resource that's even bigger than the internet that's sitting right under all of our noses. Local public libraries offer information you can't get anywhere else, and can help you find more ideas, learn more about your area of expertise, and are completely free.

Sockii has knocked it out of the ballpark with her leaf dedicated to the iconic 80's Sting-fronted band, The Police

Today's Magna Cum Laude leaf is one of the finest leaves about a science fiction topic on Zujava, and it's written by bittyanimals. The leaf title: "All About Hobbits" lives up to its well-chosen name. You'll be hearing more about hobbits in the coming months/years as more movies and media are released from this series, so be sure to catch up on her leaf.

Have you ever heard a parent say "Yeah, parenting is easy." You won't. Parenting is the hardest job in the world, as any parent will gladly tell you (and probably already has). As parents, we're always striving to do more for our children to help them succeed, have fun, and protect them, which is why when another parent speaks, we usually listen.

Yup, we're going for two in one week, partly to make up for lost time, partly because this recipe sounds good enough to share, and partly because it was one of the leaves chosen as a winner for the Thanksgiving Recipe Leaf Challenge. The Magna Cum Laude distinction goes to Mouse1996 for her leaf, Thanksgiving Morning Brunch Banana Bread.

Magna Cum Laude is back! Today's long awaited award goes to Art Aspirations recipe for Gluten Free Butternut Cornbread, which we loved for many reasons. It was also hand chosen as one of the winners of the Thanksgiving Recipe Leaf Challenge. Congratulations, Art Aspirations!

Some take-home advice based on Art Aspirations fine award winning work:

A picturesque, tasty, and different recipe for Thanksgiving and the holidays was shared by Bexley, who participated in the Thanksgiving Recipe Leaf Challenge - and won! Congratulations to Bexley for her hard work in putting together this top notch leaf. We really enjoyed this leaf's photos, readability, and uniqueness of the recipe itself.

Why we chose this leaf:

Who would have thought? Especially after the recent candy eating binge, reusing old candy wrappers in a creative, useful, green way is a great idea to eliminate throwaways. All the while, you're letting your creative side loose. Heartycindy published a leaf that details how to make pillows from used candy wrappers in a few simple steps.

The results? They're pretty cool, and might be a fun project for kids to get into. Keep it in the back of your head for Earth Day 2013, or sooner.

Stop by today's Magna Cum Laude awarded leaf for all of the details:

As one of the winners of the List Leaf Challenge, Christene's 10 TV Shows for Dancers and Dance Fans is the perfect example of an excellent list leaf. We asked the Zujava community to write a leaf that met our criteria of likability on social networking sites, uniqueness, and an easy to read yet informative format that keeps readers wanting more.

What we really liked about this leaf:

Too often, we forget about the "trick" part of Halloween. "Treats" are abound, but if you need a good dose of humor for Halloween, contrariaN creativE has come up with ten original ways to bring the funny on today's Magna Cum Laude awarded leaf:

10 Ways to Add Humor to Halloween

This title really lives up to its claim: these are five ideas most of us don't know about sign language. This is a great read, with some entertaining and educational videos about American Sign Language.

As the 2012 season of fall TV programming begins, we can look back on 2011 and reminisce of the great shows that graced the small screen (and will continue to for 2012-2013). Daddykeane has summed up the very best characters on his Magna Cum Laude awarded leaf, The 10 Best TV Characters of the 2011-2012 Season

Sometimes it's an idea that can make a leaf stand out from the pack. Bittyanimals has taken the time to lovingly create her leaf, How to Serve Halloween Dips, and given us all of the details on how to replicate this serving idea for Halloween.

The leaf contains instructions on how to turn large oranges into mini cauldrons brimming with sauces and dips for Halloween parties. Just like pumpkins, the inside doesn't have to be wasted, as you'll read on the leaf.

VarietyWriter went all out to create one incredible Halloween party leaf with her Magna Cum Laude leaf, Haunted House Party. This leaf was chosen by Lewister6232 for the Zujava Halloween Costume Contest. As part of the contest, she was granted one leaf to award Magna Cum Laude, and she chose this leaf! Here's what she had to say about the leaf:

If you're curious on how to create an outstanding product oriented leaf, Lewister6232's leaf on Halloween Owner and Dog Costumes is a prime example.

It was chosen as the winner for the Zujava Halloween Costume Contest, which crowned Lewister6232 as the Wicked Toucan of the West for the day. As part of her prize, she will receive this Magna Cum Laude blog post!

Here are five things we really liked about this leaf that helped us choose it:

A couple of weeks ago, we issued a challenge to all of our writers to publish a brand new political leaf that showcased the candidates in a unique way. The winner of this contest is Rochelle, with her leaf Romney-Ryan Bumper Stickers, Magnets, Pins and More!

There's something extra spooky about haunted houses in New England, and you can't get much more rural than the backroads of Vermont.

It's that time of year. Are you missing your kids away at college, or are they missing you? Bonita has outlined some creative ways to send essentials they'll need and want while they're away from home on her Magna Cum Laude winning leaf, Creative Care Packages for College Students

Eleven years ago today, America changed forever. We lost 2,977 people that day. Watching from the safety of a far away television, it was frightening, shocking, and angering. Imagine if you were actually there to witness it in person? Millions of people did, like Rochelle, who recounts her day on the Magna Cum Laude award winning leaf, 9/11: I Was There

As part of our Fall Leaf Mission, winner BarefootMusing was allowed to choose one leaf from another writer for Magna Cum Laude. She wisely chose VarietyWriter's leaf, Big Bear California.

Here's why BarefootMusing chose the leaf:
