A Day to Go Bananas!
National Banana Split Day was created to honor the scrumptious ice cream dish called the banana split. The official date of the celebration varies depending on the source. Most say it's August 25, while some say August 10 or June 8. Personally, I think it should be celebrated on all three days. After all, who can eat too many banana splits?
Let's learn about this unusual holiday and discover clever ways to celebrate it.

The History of the Banana Split
Who Invented It?
No one can say for sure exactly who was the first to invent the banana split. Several have claimed responsibility.
Some say it was invented by Dr. David Strickler in Latrobe, Pennsylvania. In his pre-doctor days, while working at Tassell Pharmacy he supposedly came up with an original ice cream concoction, the banana split, which became a big hit with students at a nearby college.
However, in 1906 Stinson Thomas, promoted it at the National Association of Retail Druggists in Boston.
Whoever the original inventor was, it appears that the banana split was born in a drug store!
