I went to the San Diego Wild Animal Park, as it was called back in 2005. I remember the grounds are enormous, and the open air feel of the park made it less zoo-like. It's quite a drive from San Diego in traffic, but well worth it.

Yes, the 1,800 acre park is enormous so anyone visiting should be prepared to do lots of walking. It's a beautiful zoo.

Come to think of it, I remember this place was one of the few destinations on our trip where we opted to take the guided tour since we were short on time, which I believe was a Tram ride. The Frequent Flyers Bird show was really interesting.

San Diego zoo sounds amazing. I am truly surprised that they have overnight camping there. It is like a vacation destination rather than a typical zoo day trip. It sounds like so much fun.
