Feline Hyperthyroidism: Why My Cat Started Starving to Death

My cat is nearly sixteen and heading towards fat and comfortable, just as she's been for the first twelve years of her life. But for nearly three years, she was hungry and miserable and steadily losing weight, no matter how much I fed her.
1 month agoMy Top Tips to Play Munchkin, Stay Alive, Take Their Stuff and Not Become Public Enemy No. 1 in the Process!

Munchkin's an awesome game, and it's easy to get overwhelmed when you first start playing, be distracted by shiny treasures and get carried away with the fun of beating up the losing players.
But there are definitely things to watch out for (mostly hidden in the fine print of different cards - always check other people's cards!) and some strategies worth pursuing. I've been playing Munchkin at every opportunity since I got it with different people and have been getting pretty good at it. I've certainly learnt quite a few things along the way!

Dodger is a non-Discworld book by the amazing Terry Pratchett, due to be released 25th September 2012, but came out on Kindle on the 14th. I didn't even know what it's about when I saw it and I pre-ordered it anyway, that's how good Pratchett is, and I'm glad to say that it was very worth it. Dodger is one of his best books, and highly recommended.
2 months agoThe New Zealand Whio or Blue Duck

New Zealand is a small country, and the vast majority of its native species are unique and endangered. The endemic ducks of New Zealand are no exception. The Whio (Blue Duck) and the Pateke (Brown Teal) are the two rarest waterfowl species in the world.
The Blue Duck (Hymenolaimus malacorhynchos) is very unique, and has no close relatives at all. Like many New Zealand species, it represents an early evolutionary stage. It has since found itself a unique white water niche, and now has distinct behavioural and anatomical attributes.

Pomaireware Clay dishes, pots and woks are handmade in Chile from nothing but clay. They are unique, come from locals, and are fantastic for cooking with. If you're worried about Teflon coatings, hate scrubbing off burnt food afterwards, and are generally frustrated with normal metal cookware, then these nonstick, porous, heat retaining, microwave and freezer- safe clay dishes should be right up your alley.

If you're fairly new to writing online, whether on Squidoo, Hubpages, Zujava, your own blogs, or anywhere else, you've probably run into writer's block at least once.
Even if you have ideas, you probably don't have any idea if they'll work out, if you want to write them, and whether it's worth bothering. Well, this is a guide to figuring out where to start.

Did you ever notice that coconut palms grow all over the Tropics? No matter how small or distant the island, you'll probably find a coconut palm, tall and familiar, watching over the water and casting its long shadow on the pale sand.
2 weeks agoMy Skreened T-Shirts

Skreened is one of the several Print on Demand websites around. It's a fairly new one, and focusses on t-shirts and tote bags. Its main point of difference is that it markets itself as being environmentally and ethically conscious. It prints onto the same range of American Apparel clothing as all the other sites, which does include some organic options, as well as Anvil products. They claim to use a more environmentally conscious printing process and minimal packaging, as well as researching their suppliers.
9 months agoThe Main Characters in My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic

My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic is a hugely successful modern version (Generation Four) of the My Little Pony franchise. It follows the adventures and friendship of six ponies: Twilight, Applejack, Rarity, Fluttershy, Rainbow Dash and Pinkie Pie. There are two each of the three pony types; magical unicorns, flying pegasus and 'ordinary' Earth ponies, and they all have very different personalities. Debates range widely over which pony is the best pony - though pretty much everyone agrees that you don't be mean to Fluttershy.

On the eighth of March, 2013 it was announced that the 40th Discworld book would be called Raising Steam. There is currently no publication date nor deadline and is very much not finished!
It was announced on Twitter, with a cruel, cruel teaser photo of Pratchett holding a sign with half of the title, followed by the real announcement.
