  • Guys: Score an "A" in Your Valentine's Day Gift Giving

    give love, get love

I'm a big fan of love. I believe that both giving and receiving love are two of the greatest privileges known to man. So, any holiday solely dedicated to celebrating the L-word is alright with me. Back when I was younger (and dating), Valentine's Day was a pretty big deal. I always aimed to give thoughtful gifts and I certainly always hoped to receive thoughtful gifts. For me, it always went beyond jewelry, flowers, and chocolate and was about a perfectly selected card and a gift that signaled that the giver was in tune with who I was and what I liked.

  • My Thoughts on Facebook

I have been doing some musing about social media lately. There are days where I have a love/hate relationship with it. Most days, I am networking, sharing, and getting a pretty good return on my investment of time. On those days, I feel inspirational (as well as inspired). Other days, I feel like I am surrounded by a world of ass-hats and wish we could just nuke the internet altogether, go back to the days when we asked our neighbors for cups of sugar, and actually had face-to-face conversations instead of online chats.

  • Simple Tips to Get (and Keep) You Healthy

    Shedding Weight, Feeling Great

EIGHTY POUNDS. That's the size of an average 4th grader. It is 16 bags of sugar or 12 gallons of water. A few bags of rock salt. It is the approximate weight of two 15 foot canoes. A fully-grown male Labrador Retriever weighs 80 pounds. A chair and ottoman weighs a combined 80 pounds. It is also the combined weight that my husband and I shed in 2011. Forty pounds each. Thatsallotta pounds!

  • Making a 3D Salt Dough Map

    mixing salt dough

My second-grader was tasked with creating a 3D rendition of South America while on February vacation this year. In school, they have been studying geography and have been learning about the continents (with their major mountain ranges and major rivers), oceans, and seas. Not wanting to spend the entire 9 days working on school projects, we opted to do something relatively quick, educational, and that had a bit of a fun factor.

  • Ten Common Health Misconceptions

    overfed and undernourished

I have been working diligently over the past six months to spread the word about some key health information. Last July, my husband, daughters, and I got some information that changed the (unhealthy) trajectory of our lives and I am on a mission to share that information with as many people as I can. Largely working alone, I consider myself a sort of grassroots operation - with the mission of helping people live longer, healthier lives.
